About the only part where the slow cooker could come in handy is the cooking portion where the meat cooks on the stove for 2 1/2 hours. Honestly, I felt horrible that his birthday fell right in the middle of so much heavy news.
Make sure you reheat the stew until it is piping hot all the way through before serving. Just added it to my to-do list.
