Parking at Bear Gulch adds an extra 0.6 miles to the round trip hike. I saw more when hiking near the campground but it's easy to socially distance there. (And that bit is probably even harder coming down). There are a couple of places to stop and take pics, look through binoculars, and learn about the area. It’s a long climb up for 3 hours, on challenging terrain at times, to the hut.
We stayed at the Pinnacles hut in mid January, the hike is quite achievable in one day but nothing beats spending a night in the mountains!

This process is has been ongoing since the last ice age. This cave is longer than Bear Gultch and a flashlight is highly recommended. Excellent hike, track is in great condition and easy to follow. In the sleeping quarters, there are mattresses to use, take ear plugs if you want to get some sleep.
We found maps outside of the visitor center on a table and decided to hike to Bear Gulch, which was about 2.5 miles. The hut is very well equipped with toilets/loo roll, drinking wat, We walked on a Friday so missed all the crowds.
